Campbellsville, Duffield events scheduled

Four in Madison County receive state history awards

Three Madison County organizations and a Richmond educator have received 2009 Kentucky History Awards for activities associated with the Battle of Richmond.

Madison Bank - headquartered in Richmond - received a corporate award, Madison County Fiscal Court was a government award winner and the Battle of Richmond was presented a certificate of commendation. Clark-Moores Middle School teacher Sharon Graves received an award of merit.

The honors, sponsored by the Kentucky Historical Society (KHS), were presented March 7 at ceremonies in Frankfort.

Lancaster re-enactment scheduled for Oct 2-4

The First Annual Battle of Lancaster has been scheduled for Oct. 2-4.

Pre-registration forms and a $5 fee must be paid and received by Sept. 1 to obtain such amenities as firewood, hay and water for horses, and a Saturday evening meal. Checks should be made payable to Battle of Lancaster Organization, c/o Byron Teater, 103 York Street, Lancaster, Ky. 40444. Fees are $7 after Sept. 1.

Hunley replica to be displayed at Leatherwood re-enactment

A reenactment of the Battle of Leatherwood is scheduled Oct. 23-25 with a full-scale replica of the Confederate submarine Hunley on display.

The weekend will kick off Friday with an education day for all local schools. Saturday events begin at 9 a.m. with weapons and craft demonstrations, a battle at 2 p.m. and ending with a Grand Ball at 7 o’clock. Sunday events include a church service at 11 a.m., a battle at 2 p.m., followed by closing ceremonies. All events are a free and open to the public.

Kozac elected president of CKCWT organization

Mary Kozac, Camp Nelson, will serve as president of the Central Kentucky Civil War Trails (CKCWT) organization for 2009. She and four others were elected officers at a Feb. 25 meeting in Richmond.

Betty Jane Gorin, Tebbs Bend, was elected secretary and Gilbert Wilson, Mill Springs, will serve as treasurer. Paul Rominger, Battle of Richmond, and Tres Seymour, Munfordville, are at-large representatives.

The CKCWT is a cooperative effort of 10 organizations to showcase diverse Civil War heritage resources to the public.
