Evening with Lincolns is April 25

“An Evening with the Lincolns,” an in-depth Civil War discussion between Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln, opens the Battle of Richmond Association’s (BORA) schedule of 2009 events April 25 at a 5:30 p.m. fund-raising dinner.

The nation’s 16th president and first lady will be featured in the banquet room at Gillum’s Sports Lounge in Richmond. The presentation follows a 6 p.m. steak dinner at Gillum’s, located in the Richmond Mall.

Tickets are $35 per person or $60 per couple and can be purchased by calling 248-1974 or by mailing a check to BORA, 101 Battlefield Memorial Highway, Richmond, Ky. 40475. Seating is limited to 125.

Proceeds will be used to support the Battle of Richmond Association and its efforts to preserve the history and heritage of the 1862 Civil War conflict.

Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln will be portrayed by Larry and Mary Elliott of Louisville in a 45-minute program that will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Time will be available for photos and further discussion with the Elliotts before the 8 p.m. conclusion of the event.

Elliott, treasurer of the Abraham Lincoln Presenters Association, has been portraying Lincoln since 2004 and, along with his wife, makes more that 100 appearances per year at schools and various period activities and events.

“An Evening with the Lincolns” is the first of several Civil War events planned by BORA. A living history program for elementary and middle school students is scheduled May 21-22, a Texas memorial monument will be dedicated May 23, a golf tournament will be conducted Aug. 28 and the annual Re-enactment Weekend is Aug. 29-30.
