After the battle
McMillan’s Landing in Monroe County was the beginning of Col. John Hunt
Morgan’s famous raid in 1862 as he and his troops launched the Battle of
Tompkinsville. This Mort Kunsler artwork depicts Morgan and his troops
following their victory. Artifacts from the July 9, 1862, conflict are
on display at a county museum. See story.

Big boom
What happens when you detonate, without warning, 180 Civil War
cannonballs 150 years after the Civil War? Buildings rattle and people
tend to panic. See Bugle Briefs

Cool Ben
Confederate Lt. Bennett
Young was described as a
man of “many adventures.”
The Jessamine County
native always will be
remembered for his raid
of St. Albans, Vt., and
robbery of more than
$200,000 from three banks.
