Civil War cruise scheduled Sept. 11
aboard historic Belle of Louisville

Miss Belle of Louisville is doing it again.

Eight years ago, Paula White organized a Civil War cruise on the historic Louisville paddle wheeler while she was serving as the vessel’s poster girl. It was so successful that the Civil War living history specialist has been persuaded to stage another get-together.

“The Belle of Louisville is the oldest, most authentic steamboat in America,” White pointed out. “I’ve been hounded by lots of re-enactors to charter her again for a cruise and we’ll do that on Sept. 11. The first one was great fun, and I can hardly wait.”

The fall event begins with boarding at 6:30 p.m. and includes a three-hour cruise down the Ohio River, a special reception in the Captain’s Quarters, steam calliope music, and a dance on an air-conditioned deck. Refreshments will be provided by Greg Tipton, secretary of the Battle of Richmond Association (BORA), featuring chicken and ham salads, veggie and fruit trays and desserts.

White said a cash bar also will be available, unlimited light soft drinks and music provided by the Southern Sons Band.

The cost is $60 per couple, or $35 single with 19th century dress required.

“But, no weapons or spurs, please,” White added.

Reservations are required and must be received by Sept. 1. White can be contacted via e-mail at vermillion69@hotmail.com or by cell phone at 859-624-6791. E-mail reservations should include a phone number in order for confirmation. Reservations are open to the public and can be accepted for 300 individuals.

“I’m also working on a block of rooms in the downtown area for those who will be traveling from a great distance and who might want lodging after the cruise,” White said.

The cruise is sponsored by the 2nd Kentucky Infantry CSA.

White, a Waco resident and Richmond cosmetologist, is president of the 2nd Kentucky and vice president of BORA.
