Fall at Columbus-Belmont
Columbus-Belmont State Park will have weapons blazing and plenty
of action at its annual Civil War Days, Oct. 9-11. The weekend will include
battle re-enactments, living history activities and encampments. Opening
day is education day with schools, scouts, groups and clubs encouraged

It’s all military
The Kentucky Military Museum, formerly the Kentucky Arsenal, features
uniforms, medals, flags and weapons from two centuries of conflicts,
including the Civil War.
The building, erected in 1850, was renovated
in 2012.

Helm controversy
Confederate Gen. Benjamin H. Helm was married to Mary Todd Lincoln’s
half-sister, Emilie Todd. That union created a Washington controversy
when Emilie visited Mary at the White House following Helm’s death.

Brian was there
Brian Williams recently submitted this photo to NBC-TV executives to prove
that he had met with President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War.
The photo was taken at Antietam, Md., Oct. 3, 1862. Intelligence Services
Director Allan Pinkerton (left) and Union Major Gen. John A. McClernand
provided affidavits to the network that Williams actually was present
to interview President Lincoln.
