Passport program seeks to enhance
knowledge of Civil War in Kentucky

Travelers have the opportunity to further enhance their knowledge of the Civil War, travel Kentucky’s by-ways and have fun by participating in the Kentucky Civil War Sites Association (KCWSA) Passport Program.

The passports provide individuals the opportunity to have their booklets stamped at each of 16 locations or provide a photo of a site. Once 10 locations have been visited, completed passport holders can receive an official KCWSA certificate. The 16 KCWSA participating sites all tell a special story of their communities’ involvement in the war. Some are battlefields, others are museums, historic homes and locations where key events occurred. The sites include: Battle of Richmond, Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park, Civil War Fort at Boonesboro, Leslie Morris Park at Fort Hill, Lexington Historic Homes, Mill Springs Battlefield, Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site, Munfordville Battlefields, Tebbs Bend Battlefield, Battle of Lebanon, James H. Ramage Civil War Museum, Fort Duffield Park and Historic Site, Hardin County History Museum, Battle of Barbourville, Bluegrass Heritage Museum and West Point Kentucky History Museum.

The Passport Program began June 15 and runs through Dec.15. Passports are available at each of the 16 sites or can be downloaded from the Association’s website, www.kycivilwarsites.org.

“The Passport Program is a great opportunity to learn about Kentucky’s role and the role of many Commonwealth communities in the Civil War,” Joni House, program chair and Perryville Battlefield preservation coordinator, stated.

The Kentucky Civil War Sites Association was established in 2009 as a non-profit corporation for the purpose of educating the public about Kentucky’s Civil War heritage. The organization’s goals are to partner with the more than 100 Civil War sites in Kentucky to promote this heritage.
