Cutting edge

Although one horse seems
to be disinterested in the
proceedings, re-enactments at
Cynthiana can be cut-up events,
especially when cavalry
troopers get involved.
Cynthiana’s next re-enactment
weekend is June 15-17,
it’s 150th anniversary.

Smoky departure

The Fourth Biennial
Re-enactment of
Morgan’s Crossing
of the Ohio River will be
conducted at Brandenburg
by the Meade County
Civil War Heritage
Association July 7-8.
 The event, which is staged
every two years, was
highlighted in 2010
by this photo taken
by Victoria Robinson.
Anyone you know?
Forensic reconstruction has provided these two images of crew members from the
USS Monitor, the ironclad ship that sank in 1862. The man on the left is believed to be
the older of the two.

Still a drummer
A youngster is more fascinated by Albert Woolson's Grand Army of the Republic hat
than he is with the Union veteran’s drumming ability. Woolson died in 1956 at age 109
as the oldest surviving Civil War veteran.
